I'm Alex Bertulis-Fernandes, writer and artist. This year my work went viral and was featured in Newsweek, TIME MagazineThe Guardian and Dazed. I’ve just been shortlisted for Penguin Books’ WriteNow mentoring scheme for aspiring authors and illustrators. I won Cream 2018 and was selected for D&AD's New Blood Shift programme, a night school for non-graduates. I’m currently on placement at BBC Creative.

Past

In 2017 I was one of nineteen creatives selected for D&AD's New Blood Shift London

In 2016 a comment I made on the Humans of New York Facebook page got me 18,000 likes. I also compared being the daughter of two librarians to having parents in the hustling game.

In 2015 I worked and lived in Australia, completing three months of farm work and attending the Australian Gnome Convention. I also made a Miss Piggy video inspired by Taylor Swift.

In 2014 I was part of the National Theatre's Young Studio: Season 6 and the Burn After Reading Poetry Collective.

In 2013 I was part of the National Theatre’s ‘New Views’ playwriting programme, and acted as an ambassador for the Southbank Centre’s Women of the World festival. I spoke on the panel 'The F Word: Young People and Feminism'.

From 2011-2012 I was a Barbican Poet, and from 2010-2014 I was an Editor for Spinebreakers, Penguin Books' online community for teenagers.
